Round 1
“The Edge of the Blade” - Mystikal (1/2 Star)
Pretty annoying musical notes. The vocal is way too loud. The lyrics are terrible. There’s no rhythm. Apparently they also incorporated sound samples from the film into the track. Sadly those do nothing to improve the track. The last 30 seconds just turns into a weird repeat play of a sound sample and music.
“1/2 & 1/2 (feat. M.O.P.)” - Gang Starr (1/2 Star)
Repeat of “The Edge of Blade” in terms of disaster. Another musical track which is too short and not even close to being good. The vocal is too loud. The lyrics again are awful. The second vocalist is better than the grating first, but at least he can rap. Sadly the damage has been laid down and a horrible combination has been achieved. The third portion is a rapper who thinks being loud is singing… No one cares if you’re yelling if they are in charge of the volume. Bazinga! The last 20 seconds is just the musical beat repeated; in case anyone wants to sample that.
“Blade (feat. Channel Live)” - KRS-One (1/2 Star)
Another unlistenable track. The musical back is grating. The rapping is terrible and has no rhythm. On a personal note, how can anyone listen to this music? Honestly, play me any part of these three songs and I promise I won’t be able to tell you which part comes from which song.
“Fightin’ a War (feat. Rome)” - Down 2 Earth (1 1/2 Stars)
At least this song switches things up. Not for any of the better… Maybe a little better. This rapper can at least rap without sounding annoying. The chorus can carry a note and it repeats enough for it to be annoyingly catchy. Sadly the track isn’t my taste. I can’t imagine ever listening to this track recreationally. But at least it isn’t as awful as the first part of this soundtrack. I can also see this song fitting the tone of “Blade”. While it sings about the dark side, it isn’t dark enough to reflect Blade’s fight against the vampires, but I give this one credit for deserving its spot on this soundtrack.
“Reservations” - P.A. (1 Star)
The first rapper here has a decent voice, but is rapping too fast. The music is dark, but there isn’t enough of it. The chorus takes a cue from the previous song, but it isn’t nearly as catchy; they also sound very nasally. The second rapper is far too bland, but at least he’s slower.
“Gangsta Bounce” - Wolfpak (1/2 Star) *Awesomely Bad Song Nomination*
Really? You’re just going to repeat the word “bounce”? That’s hilariously awful. This is the kind of song normal people make fun of. Heck, this song is so ridiculous I think even the most gangsta of rap fans make fun of this terrible track.
Round 2… After I pick my head off the ground.
“Things Ain’t The Same” - Kasino (1 Star)
Things start on a hopeful note. There’s a nice piano prelude… Maybe this will be a decent song? Those dreams die hard soon there after. While a more mellow song, it’s still rap garbage. Nonetheless, the mellow-ness of the piano and beats is welcome over the awful rap that preceded it.
